World Environment Day Celebrated across Locations

“Join the race to make the world a better place”
-This slogan carries a clear message and asks everyone to get involved in making the world a better place to live in. World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 5th June every year to raise global awareness which leads to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. It is run by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

World Environment Day was celebrated with full enthusiasm at JSPL. This World Environment Day, JSPL organized a series of activities across its divisions to spread awareness about environment protection, nourishment and eco-conscious growth.

JSPL Raigarh

JSPL Raigarh marks the World Environment Day 2016 with a series of activities to spread environmental awareness. JSPL organized a series of events during the week starting from on June 1, 2016. The activities covered not only plant and staff Colonies but the adjoining villages also. Employees, Residents and Children were made aware of JSPL’s Green initiatives & best practices to keep the environment Green & clean. Around fifteen hundred children from the Villages of Patrapali, Chiraipani, Kirodimal Nagar and JSPL colony expressed their thoughts through drawing, painting and slogans on environment very enthusiastically.

On 5th June, an Environment Awareness Rally was organized in the morning followed by plantation drives. Participants expressed their dreams and thoughts on this year’s World Environment Day theme. Mr. Pankaj Gautam (Executive Director- Projects & Operations, JSPL Raigarh), Mr. Nirmalendu Purohit (President- Technical, JSPL Raigarh) and Mr. DP Singh (EMD Head JSPL Raigarh) expressed their views and concerns on environmental protection and stressed upon sustainability saying that it should be taken care not only at industrial level but also at individual level. The awareness program ended with prize distribution followed by plantation at JSPL Colony, Parsada and Punjipatra by Employees, Residents and children of the Company and villages..

JSPL, Angul

A mini marathon run named as Green Run, massive plantation drive, awareness programmes and competitions on environment theme have been organized by JSPL, Angul Unit to celebrate World Environment Day on June 05, 2016. Executive Director (I/c) and Location Head of the unit Mr. Dinesh Kumar Saraogi flagged off the ‘Green Run’ early in the morning, in which more than 400 employees and their family members participated. This was followed by plantation drive by the employees from all departments. Mr. Saraogi awarded the winners of various competitions like Slogan, Drawing, Quiz and Essay on environment, organized on the occasion. The EMD department under the guidance of JSPL management and its HoD Mr.Alok Kumar Sahu coordinated the programme.

JSPL, Patratu
The World Environment Day was celebrated with full enthusiasm at JSPL,Patratu.

The Harit Prabhat Pheri was carried out in JSPL premises and all Jindalites had actively participated in it. The rally started from Jindal Guest house and followed with the plantation programme at PGP area. A Mass plantation drive was carried out in the PGP area. The employees sang various environment motivating slogans to demonstrate their commitment towards environment and sustainability.

DCPP, Dongamahua
“Go Wild for Life” to raise the voice against wildlife crime and damages caused by it - with this theme, DCPP marked the World environment day on 5th June 2016.
World Environment Day 2016 was celebrated with a series of activities to spread environmental awareness. EMD department organized a week long program which included various events and competitions like slogan writing, poster making, environment quiz and tree plantation and concluded the program with a valedictory function on 6th June where all the winners of various competitions were felicitated

T.R.B. Iron Ore Mines, Tensa

T.R.B. Iron Ore Mines celebrated 44th World Environment Day with plantation drive and poster competition. Employees, children and members of Jindal Mahila Samiti enthusiastically participated in this programme.
In the evening, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mr R.S Raghuwanshi, D.G.M (Geo. Environment & Quality Contro.). Mr. Dharani Dhar Sahoo, Forest Officer of Dengula under Barsuan Range graced the occasion as Chief Guest. As per the theme of this year “Zero Tolerance for the Illegal Wildlife Trade”, Mr. T Sahu made a presentation on Wildlife Conservation. Mr K Bhattacharya and Mr Tarun Jaithwa also shared their views. All the participants of Poster Competition were awarded with certificate.

JSPL, Barbil

A Massive plantation drive, several environment awareness programmes and competitions on World Environment Day’s theme marked observation of World Environment Day – 2016 at JSPL, Barbil. Executive Vice President (EVP) and Unit Head Mr. T S Shanbhogue launched the noble initiative by planting saplings on the occasion, which was followed by senior officials and employees from all departments.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shanbhogue said, "We should keep our environment clean & green for a healthy society. JSPL Barbil Unit has taken several initiatives to keep this plant environmental friendly”. He asked for cooperation of all employees, workers and community members for making JSPL Barbil unit a clean and green plant. Winners of various competitions like Slogan, Posters and Essay were awarded on the occasion. JSPL Barbil Unit Environment Management Division Head Mr. Subodh Kumar Singh along with the team coordinated the programme.
